I've always been interested in home automation, however I never had a home to try it out on. Now that I do, I want to use a web server on my home network to control various tasks. The first target is the result of a friday night (if you consider 4AM "night") project:

So, I'd like to monitor my new in-wall habitat, via the web. I know that I'll be using New Atlanta's Blue Dragon free CFML server, java, and some sort mish-mosh of probes and other control interface equipment. Most of my learning will be on the hardware side... as soon as I've got data coming into the serial port, I'll be good to go. Can anyone recommend some good sites for purchasing/research of this type of equipment (temp probes, ph probes, serial port interfaces, servo control output, etc etc..)? TIA

This one is pretty old, and not exactly what you are looking for, but if you do anything with X10, there is a CFX tag for controlling it: http://www.macromedia.com/cfusion/exchange/index.cfm?view=sn131&extID=1000162

I've got a server, I just need the control interface equipment. Stuff like this: http://store.qkits.com/serv/qkits/diy/pages/QK145.asp http://store.qkits.com/moreinfo.cfm/K8000 etc etc... I just need someone to tell me what to buy.
